When you’re pregnant, it quickly goes from “How are you?” to “How’s the baby?” Everyone wants to know all about the changes within your belly. But what about you? You’ve still got to focus on self-care during pregnancy, now more than ever.
For a lot of women, pregnancy is a bumpy ride. Mood swings and body changes can have you feeling pretty bummed. No matter how much everyone focuses on the baby, you need to focus on you. Keep yourself happy, healthy, and calm, so that your baby will be the same.

Ask For Help
In my experience, pregnancy is always a big deal, whether it’s your first or fifth! (Okay, I only have three, but you get the point.) You’re going to want to find places where you can get the answers you need, from people in similar positions. Mom groups can be a tremendous amount of support, and you can read about finding the right one here.
You can find tons of resources online, from guides on pregnancy symptoms by week to groups for expecting mothers that meet for cake and a chat each week. Finding the right group is all about personality meshing, so don’t be afraid to try a few different ones.
You may not be able to have a glass of wine at night, but there are plenty of other ways you can relax. Contrary to popular belief, you can soak in a warm bath to relax, and it’ll also help relieve some of the tension in your back. You could also book a prenatal massage, these were live savers in my pregnancies.

Being pregnant can feel miserable some days, especially as your bump keeps growing and growing! This is an extremely normal feeling, and you don’t have to feel guilty about not enjoying every second. By the end of my pregnancies, I was begging my children to come out! Remember, you’re not only allowed to nap on the sofa, you’re encouraged to!
While the frustration and boredom is normal, watch out for the down periods affecting your day-to-day life. It could be nothing, but talking to a doctor about how you’re feeling could flag issues like depression that is often linked to pregnancy. There is no shame having depression as a mother, and there are a ton of treatments you can try to get back to normal.

Do Everything to Stay as Healthy as You Can
It’s obvious that you should never miss a visit or scan. These visits are the best way to ensure baby is growing properly, and to prepare for any disabilities that may be coming.
The number one piece of advice to follow is that your health is the biggest factor in the health of your baby. You also need to think about your diet during these months, because baby is getting all vitamins and nutrients from you.

Sleep is also a super important factor, no matter how much baby kicks and wiggles at night. (My daughter was the most active at night, because that’s when daddy was home!) If you can’t get your full 8 hours, take naps any time you need to. Going to bed early is not something to be ashamed of in pregnancy.
A lot of people say that pregnancy pillows help with sleep the bigger you get. You can read this article to help choose which one you think would be best. My personal favorite pregnancy pillow is listed bellow for an awesome price!
If you already have young children, finding the time for self-care during pregnancy can be a big challenge, but your partner and friends/family should understand if you need a night off (and free childcare!).
