Stress is one of the worst health issues we are all facing, believe me. It is everywhere in our fast-paced society, and it can lead to a host of serious health issues like depression, obesity, heart disease and even Alzheimer’s. Give yourself just one gift in 2018, the gift of less stress.
How do you do that? Easily! By adopting some of these stress-releasing activities into your daily life:
Declutter Your Home
A cluttered home leads to a cluttered mind. The messier your home is, the more likely it is to be a cause of stress for you. Go through your house one room at a time, take inventory, and rid yourself of the unnecessary clutter.
Take Up Meditation
Download an app like Headspace or Calm, seek out one of the comfiest meditation cushions, and schedule at least 20 minutes out of your day to sit down, back straight and eyes closed to simply relax, clear your head and get rid of the negative thoughts that cause you to be more stressed. Keep up with steady practice, and soon you will notice that you’re a lot calmer on a day to day basis.

Do you like to exercise? Many yoga routines incorporate meditation into the practice! My husband and I get up together every morning to do a quick 20-30 minute yoga session. We follow a few people on youtube, and do yoga and meditate together in our living room while coffee brews. Trust me, it’s absolutely amazing.
Detoxify Your Friend Situation
Most of us have at least one toxic friend who drains us and makes us feel worse than we did before seeing them. They can be an ongoing cause of stress that we do not need (or want) to deal with. So, take the time to evaluate all of your relationships and cut out those people who cause you more harm than good. If they’re work colleagues and you can’t get rid of them completely, then find coping strategies to put up your mental blocks and get along with them.
Get More Sleep
The less sleep you get, the more you will be burdened by a level of stress that you can’t cope with. Make it your mission to get more shut-eye by any means necessary, whether that means scheduling a good 7-9 hours, trying herbal supplements or investing in a good set of blackout blinds. If nothing helps, see a doctor and see if they can help you. Sometimes medication is /not/ the devil we’ve been told it is. Trust me.
Clean Up Your Diet
Clean eating might be a bit of a buzzword, but when it comes to dealing with stress, it is pretty essential. You don’t have to go without all of your vices, but if you try to make 80- percent of your diet healthy whole foods, and only 20 percent chips and candy, you will naturally start to feel a whole lot better in body and mind.

Keep a Stress Diary
Instead of stewing over the things that are keeping you stressed, write them down in a diary, get them out into the world and off your chest. It will lift a weight off your mind and potentially help you to see your way through the situation.
Here’s to a less stressful 2018!
